Historical Record Imaging

SRS has specialized scanners to delicately handle the scanning of even the most fragile book and documents without any contact to the original pages. These books and documents can be scanned in bi-tonal, grayscale or even full color. Once scanned, images can be converted into PDF, HTML or other formats making them instantly accessible on the web.

Other applications for this process include deeds, bound legal documents, and minutes books. Book scanning is now possible without removing the pages from the bindings or harming them in any way. This is made possible by using a special book scanner: a dedicated piece of equipment which captures the images and allows the software to straighten out the curvature of the text.

Once the pages of a book are scanned, we can "tidy up," the images, apply borders etc., to give a clean legible page which can then have Optical Character Recognition (OCR) applied to enable full text searching in PDF, HTML,XML or other formats.  The scanned images can be fully indexed to your requirements, or supplied in the SRS Online Document Repository or as Adobe Acrobat PDF. A backup CD/DVD’s can be viewed on any PC, or over a network, or via the internet, if required.

During transportation (which we will arrange), the greatest care is taken with all material supplied to us, just as it is in all handling of your books or documents. Should the original material be in poor condition and require re-binding, restoration or conservation, we can arrange to have this work provided for you.
